Hua Guofeng, originally named Su Zhu, was a Chinese politician born in Jiaocheng County on February 16, 1921. His administrative skills were evident early on, leading him to become the party secretary of Xiangtan in Hunan province, a region that included Mao Zedong's birthplace. During the tumultuous Cultural Revolution, Hua's influence grew, culminating in his appointment as Hunan's party secretary.
