Set between the events of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, this animated feature expands the Star Wars universe by focusing on the early years of the Clone Wars. Director Dave Filoni steers a story that prioritizes character dynamics over large-scale battles, introducing Ahsoka Tano as Anakin Skywalker's new Padawan. The film serves as a bridge between the prequel films while establishing the tone for the upcoming television series.
The production relied entirely on computer-generated imagery at Lucasfilm Animation in San Francisco. With a budget of $8.5 million, the movie grossed over $68 million worldwide. Voice performances from Matt Lanter, Ashley Eckstein, and James Arnold Taylor anchored the emotional core of the narrative. Critics noted the film successfully deepened the lore despite some inconsistencies with the live-action aesthetic.

The galaxy is engulfed in a violent civil war between the Galactic Republic and the Separatist Alliance. Chancellor Palpatine assigns Jedi Master Anakin Skywalker to train a new Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, a young human girl who was sent to him by her former master, Luminara Unduli. Anakin initially views this assignment as a distraction but eventually accepts the responsibility of mentoring her. Their first mission together arises when Rotta, the son of Jabba the Hutt, vanishes from Coruscant. Separatist forces orchestrated this kidnapping to frame the Republic and turn the Hutts against them.
Chancellor Palpatine orders Anakin and Ahsoka to rescue the Huttlet and restore peace between the Republic and the Hutt Clan. They join Obi-Wan Kenobi and Captain Rex along with a squad of clone troopers for the journey. The team travels to the moon of Tatooine where they must navigate the treacherous politics of the Hutt Cartel. Asajj Ventress, a deadly Sith assassin loyal to Count Dooku, hunts them across the desert landscapes.
The infiltration of Jabba's palace reveals that the villains are manipulating the Hutt family's internal dynamics to ensure Jabba remains neutral or hostile toward the Republic. High-stakes chases and intense lightsaber duels punctuate their progress through the dangerous terrain. Anakin and Ahsoka learn to trust one another while facing off against droid armies and ruthless bounty hunters hired by the Separatists. The narrative focuses heavily on the dynamic between the two Jedi as they struggle with the pressure of being generals and father figures.
Throughout the mission, the team faces betrayal and near-death experiences while the Separatist fleet looms in the distance. The story builds tension through escalating confrontations leading to a final showdown. Anakin and Ahsoka must work together to return Rotta to his father before the Separatists complete their scheme to plunge the galaxy into further darkness. The climax approaches as the heroes race against time to secure the Hutt alliance and alter the balance of power in the region.
