Peter Quill

Peter Jason Quill was born on Earth in 1980 to Meredith Quill, a human woman from Missouri, and Ego, a Celestial from beyond known space. His mother died of brain cancer when he was eight years old, a tumor secretly planted by Ego to free himself from the distraction of family. Immediately after her death, Peter was abducted from a hospital parking lot by the Ravagers, a band of space pirates led by Yondu Udonta. Yondu had been hired by Ego to retrieve the boy but chose to keep him, raising Peter as a thief and scavenger across the galaxy. Growing up among aliens, Peter clung to the one artifact from Earth his mother had given him: a Sony Walkman loaded with a mixtape of 1970s pop songs, her favorite music. That tape, labeled "Awesome Mix Vol. 1," became his emotional anchor. As an adult, Quill became a notorious outlaw, calling himself Star-Lord, a name he adopted from his mother's nickname for him, and made a living stealing valuable artifacts for the Ravagers and other criminal clients.[edit]

Quill is a charismatic, wisecracking space outlaw with a deep love for 1970s and 1980s pop culture, especially the music his mother left him. In Avengers: Infinity War, Quill learns Thanos killed Gamora, his love interest, and in a fit of rage, he punches Thanos, inadvertently allowing the villain to retrieve the Time Stone and complete the Infinity Gauntlet, triggering the Snap that kills half of all life. In Avengers: Endgame, Quill is restored and reunites with an alternate-timeline Gamora, though she does not share his memories. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Quill struggles with depression over losing his original Gamora. He leads the team on a mission to save Rocket from the High Evolutionary.
