Gamora

Gamora was born on the planet Zen-Whoberi, one of the last of her species. The Mad Titan Thanos, seeking to create a perfect weapon, slaughtered her entire race but spared the infant Gamora. He adopted her and subjected her to years of brutal training and cybernetic enhancements, transforming her into a living weapon. For much of her early life, she served as Thanos's personal assassin and enforcer, carrying out his will across the galaxy. She was also manipulated by the Universal Church of Truth, a fanatical religious organization, before eventually breaking free from their control and seeking her own path.[edit]

Gamora is defined by a fierce independence and a relentless drive to atone for the crimes she committed under Thanos's control. She is pragmatic, often calculating, and intensely focused in battle. Beneath her cold exterior lies a deep well of trauma and a longing for connection and family. She is protective of those she considers her own, especially the Guardians of the Galaxy, and will sacrifice herself for them without hesitation. Gamora debuted as an antagonist to Adam Warlock in Strange Tales #180, but quickly evolved into a complex antihero. She joined Adam Warlock's Infinity Watch in the 1990s to guard the Infinity Gems, and during the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, she fought against Thanos alongside Earth's heroes. Thanos killed her, but she was later resurrected. A major turning point came during Annihilation: Conquest (2007–2008), when she joined Star-Lord's newly formed Guardians of the Galaxy. This team became her surrogate family, and she developed deep bonds with Drax, Rocket, and Groot. In the 2018 Infinity Wars event, Gamora was manipulated by the God Quarry and became Requiem, using the Soul Stone to reshape reality. She battled her friends and confronted her inner demons, ultimately reconciling with her past and reaffirming her place as a hero.
