Rocket Raccoon originated on the planet Halfworld, a colony for mentally ill humanoid patients who created an animal society to care for them. He was one of several uplifted animals, genetically modified and cybernetically enhanced to serve as protectors. Early in his life, Rocket worked as a law enforcement officer, defending the colony from threats like the Black Bunny and the robotic Judson Jakes. His origins were later retconned to involve experimentation by the High Evolutionary, who subjected him to cruel procedures, leaving him with a deep distrust of authority and a fierce desire for freedom.[edit]

He is fiercely loyal to his friends, especially Groot, and will go to great lengths to protect them.
