Thanos

Thanos was born on Titan, a moon of Saturn, to parents A'lars and Sui-San. As an Eternal with a Deviant gene, he emerged with purple skin and a heavily ridged face that set him apart from his kind. This difference led to isolation during his youth. He developed an early fascination with death that evolved into an obsessive love for Mistress Death, the personified embodiment of the concept.

His obsession drove him to commit acts of increasing destruction in hopes of winning her favor. He gathered cosmic artifacts like the Cosmic Cube and eventually the Infinity Gems. In the landmark 1991 story Infinity Gauntlet, he assembled the gems into a gauntlet that granted him near-omnipotence. He snapped his fingers and erased half of all life in the universe. His actions were later reversed through the efforts of Nebula and Adam Warlock.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thanos hails from a Titan ravaged by overpopulation. He warned his people that they must randomly kill half their population to survive, but they rejected his plan. When the planet collapsed as he predicted, the experience hardened his conviction. He adopted daughters Gamora and Nebula from conquered worlds, raised them as assassins, and assembled the Black Order to help him collect the Infinity Stones. Thanos combines genius-level intellect with a twisted sense of mercy. He views himself not as a villain but as a necessary force who makes the hard choices others cannot. His calm demeanor hides a ruthless determination. He shows genuine affection for Gamora even as he sacrifices her for the Soul Stone, calling it a small price to pay for salvation.

He remains unflinchingly committed to his ideology of balance through destruction. In the MCU this manifests as a utilitarian response to resource scarcity. In the comics his motivations tie more directly to his love for Mistress Death. Either way he displays patience, strategic brilliance, and a willingness to endure personal loss to achieve his vision. Heroes sometimes note his twisted honor. He respects worthy opponents like Tony Stark and keeps his word even when it disadvantages him. [edit]
