Sokka

Sokka was born to Chief Hakoda and Kya of the Southern Water Tribe, the elder brother of Katara. When he was a young boy, his mother Kya was killed in a Fire Nation raid, and his father Hakoda left with the tribe's men to fight in the war, leaving Sokka and Katara to be raised by their grandmother Kanna. Growing up without his father and in the shadow of loss, Sokka assumed the role of protector for his sister and their small, vulnerable village. He trained as a warrior using traditional Water Tribe weapons, but his skills were untested beyond hunting and minor skirmishes. When he and Katara discovered the young Airbender Aang frozen in an iceberg, Sokka was skeptical of the Avatar's legends but eventually joined Aang's journey, seeing it as a way to help end the war that had taken so much from him.
