Davos Seaworth

Davos Seaworth was born in the slums of King's Landing to a common fisherman. He never learned to read or write, instead mastering the seas as a smuggler. During Robert's Rebellion, he broke the Tyrell and Redwyne blockade of Storm's End, smuggling onions, salt beef, and fish into the starving castle. This act saved Stannis Baratheon's forces. After the war, Stannis knighted him and granted him lands on Cape Wrath, but also severed the tips of his left-hand fingers as punishment for his smuggling past. Davos accepted this as just and kept the finger bones in a pouch as a reminder.[edit]

Davos is defined by his honesty, loyalty, and strong moral compass. He is humble, pragmatic, and unpretentious, often serving as the voice of reason in Stannis's court. He values justice and truth above all, and is not afraid to speak his mind even to kings. Despite his low birth, he carries himself with dignity and earns respect through his actions. In A Storm of Swords, he defies Stannis by releasing Edric Storm, a potential sacrifice, leading to his imprisonment. Stannis later pardons him. In A Dance with Dragons, Davos is sent to negotiate with Lord Wyman Manderly at White Harbor, where he learns of Rickon Stark's survival. In the TV series, he survives the Blackwater, follows Stannis to the Wall, and after Stannis's death, allies with Jon Snow.
