    Overview

Hirohiko Araki's Stone Ocean, the sixth story arc of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, shifts the action from Italy to a Florida prison. Serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 1999 to April 2003 and collected into 17 tankōbon volumes, it runs about 1,500 pages. The story follows Jolyne Cujoh, Jotaro Kujo's estranged daughter, who is framed for murder and sentenced to 15 years at Green Dolphin Street Prison. When her father's Stand and memories are stolen by a disciple of Dio Brando, Jolyne must master her own Stand, Stone Free, to save him and escape. Araki trades globe-trotting adventures for a claustrophobic jail setting, creating a tense survival story filled with bizarre enemies and high-stakes escapes. The prison becomes a character itself, with its corrupt guards and deadly inmates. Jolyne stands out as a determined, resourceful protagonist, a rare female lead in a series dominated by men. The arc was later adapted into a 38-episode anime, released on Netflix from December 2021 to December 2022. Viz Media released the English translation digitally from January 2022 to December 2024 and in nine hardcover volumes from November 2023 to March 2025.
