    About

Yuval Noah Harari (born 1976) is an Israeli medievalist, military historian, public intellectual, and popular science writer. He is a professor of history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His first bestselling book, Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind (2011) is based on his lectures to an undergraduate world history class. His other works include the bestsellers Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow (2016), 21 Lessons for the 21st Century (2018), and Nexus: A Brief History of Information Networks from the Stone Age to AI (2024). His published work examines themes of free will, consciousness, intelligence, happiness, suffering and the role of storytelling in human evolution. In Sapiens, Harari writes about a "cognitive revolution" that supposedly occurred roughly 70,000 years ago when Homo sapiens supplanted the rival Neanderthals and other species of the genus Homo, developed language skills and structured societies, and ascended as apex predators, aided by the First Agricultural Revolution and accelerated by the Scientific Revolution, which have allowed humans to approach near mastery over their environment. Furthermore, he examines the possible consequences of a futuristic biotechnological world in which intelligent biological organisms are surpassed by their own creations; he has said, "Homo sapiens as we know them will disappear in a century or so". Although Harari's books have received considerable commercial success since the publication of Sapiens, his work has been more negatively received in academic circles.

    Fame & Fandom (iFAMOUS Rankings)

Yuval Noah Harari stands as a towering figure in modern thought, currently recognized as the 4th most famous person from Israel and the 6th most famous person in AI, positions he has held steady through the latest cycle of global attention. These placements within the iFANN Global Fame Rankings reflect a reach that spans academic halls and public discourse alike, tracking influence across media coverage and consumption signals worldwide without needing to dissect the mechanics behind the numbers.

Unlike the frenzied tribes of pop culture, Harari does not command a fandom with a specific name or ritualistic gatherings. His supporters are better described as a dispersed coalition of academics, students, policymakers, and curious readers who engage deeply with his ideas rather than performing fan labor. There are no organized birthday campaigns, subway ad drives, or inside jokes circulating among his followers. Instead, interaction happens primarily through his official channels, his website, YouTube lectures, and social media updates where he shares philosophical insights directly. This audience gathers around the substance of works like Sapiens and Nexus, attending high-profile talks at venues such as the World Economic Forum, driven by intellectual curiosity rather than celebrity worship.

    Interesting Facts and Legends

Harari's legacy is built on specific, widely retold predictions that have become cultural touchstones rather than viral stunts. One pervasive narrative centers on his assertion that artificial intelligence has "hacked the code of human civilization," a concept popularized in a highly viewed lecture arguing that algorithms now understand us better than we understand ourselves. Another defining moment involves his stark warning that we have reached the point where "capitalism and humanity part ways," positioning him as a prophet of economic upheaval. He also generated significant international response for characterizing AI as a potential "great manipulative psychopath" and for his direct critiques of political figures, including comments on Donald Trump and the October 7 Hamas attack. These moments cement his reputation as a bold voice whose warnings about the future of humanity are constantly tested against current events.
