Waruhiu Itote

Waruhiu Itote's achievements are measured not in trophies but in his pivotal role in Kenya's independence struggle. As one of the first commanders to enter the forests in 1952, he led successful raids and rose to become a principal leader of the Mau Mau Uprising. His military leadership, alongside figures like Dedan Kimathi, helped sustain the rebellion against British colonial forces. His later service in the National Youth Service contributed to building Kenya's post-independence youth programs. Though his legacy is contested, his place in history as a significant Mau Mau commander is undeniable.
