Waitstill Sharp

Waitstill Sharp's recognition came late but with enormous weight. In 2005, Yad Vashem named him and his wife Martha Righteous Among the Nations, an honor given to non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust. At the time, only five Americans had ever received this distinction, and the Sharps were two of them. Their story, brought to national attention by the Ken Burns documentary, continues to inspire new generations. Harvard Law School, his alma mater, has celebrated his heroism in its publications. The Unitarian Universalist Association includes their story in educational curricula, ensuring that their moral courage remains a teaching tool for years to come.
