Roosevelt's achievements are extraordinary in both scope and impact. He is the only president to win both the Nobel Peace Prize and the Medal of Honor. His conservation legacy alone is unmatched: he protected 230 million acres of public land, establishing 5 national parks, 18 national monuments, and 150 national forests. He remains the youngest person ever to become president, at 42. AwardsRoosevelt won the 1906 Nobel Peace Prize for mediating the Russo-Japanese War, the first non-European to receive that honor. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 2001 for his actions at San Juan Hill, making him the only U.S. president to receive the nation's highest military decoration. He also received a Congressional Gold Medal in 1990 for his Spanish-American War service.
