Sue Storm grew up on Long Island, New York, in a home that felt whole until her mother Mary died in a car crash. Her father, the celebrated surgeon Dr. Franklin Storm, survived the same accident but couldn't survive the grief. He abandoned medicine, turned to gambling and drinking, and eventually landed in prison after accidentally killing a loan shark. Sue and her younger brother Johnny went to live with their aunt in a boarding house. It was there, in the quiet corners of that house, that she first met a lanky, brilliant boy named Reed Richards. Years later, Sue earned a PhD in archaeology, but her life took a radical turn when she boarded Reed's experimental rocket, the Marvel-1, alongside Johnny and Ben Grimm. Exposed to cosmic radiation during the unauthorized flight, she gained the ability to turn invisible and project powerful force fields.
