What sets Sophie Scholl apart is not a trophy case but the sheer breadth of the remembrance. Her name is on schools and public squares across Germany, including Sophie-Scholl-Platz in Munich and the Sophie-Scholl-/Willi-Graf-Gymnasium. Germany marked the centenary of her birth in 2021 with nationwide commemorations, and the annual observances on February 22 keep drawing new generations. Her letters and diaries, preserved by her sister and published in English and German, remain in print and in classrooms. The 2005 film about her final days earned an Academy Award nomination and still functions as the most common entry point to her story. Few people who died at 21 are taught in more than thirty languages, and fewer still are cited as a working example of moral courage by people who never met them.
