Rukia Kuchiki

Rukia died in the human world approximately 150 years before the start of the series and passed into the Soul Society, the afterlife realm. She and her older sister Hisana Kuchiki lived together in the Rukongai district, but Hisana abandoned Rukia as an infant. Rukia grew up alone in the 78th District of Rukongai, a harsh area where survival required strength. Her latent spiritual power attracted the attention of the Soul Reaper academy, and she was recruited to train as a Shinigami. Years later, she was adopted into the noble Kuchiki clan after her sister Hisana married Byakuya Kuchiki. Rukia's journey begins when she meets Ichigo Kurosaki, a human who can see ghosts. After a Hollow attack, she transfers her powers to him to protect his family, leaving herself powerless. She then lives in the human world as a regular student, relying on Ichigo to perform her duties. This arrangement is discovered by Soul Society, which sentences her to death for the crime of transferring powers to a human. Ichigo and his friends invade Soul Society to rescue her, leading to a confrontation with her adoptive brother Byakuya. During this arc, Rukia accepts her fate with dignity, but Ichigo's determination saves her. After the rescue, she regains her powers and returns to Soul Society, eventually becoming a lieutenant of the 13th Division. In the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, she achieves Bankai, Hakka no Togame, and becomes a captain. Her relationship with Renji Abarai deepens, and they marry, later having a daughter named Ichika. Her relationship with Ichigo is frequently cited as one of the strongest aspects of the early series. The Soul Society rescue arc, which centers on her, is often considered the best story arc in Bleach by fans. Her popularity has translated into extensive merchandise, including figurines, plush toys, and apparel.
