Ricky Smokes is an American professional wrestler currently signed to WWE, where he performs on the NXT brand. He gained prominence as one-half of the tag team Swipe Right alongside Brad Baylor and as a key member of the faction known as The Vanity Project. In August 2026, Smokes and Baylor captured the NXT Tag Team Championship, marking their second reign together.

As of 2026, he remains a central figure in the tag team division while navigating storylines that position him as a rising star within the company. [edit]

Ricky Smokes was born on April 28, 2000, in Saugus, Massachusetts, though specific details about his childhood and early schooling remain outside public record. His path to professional wrestling began through self-directed interest rather than a documented family legacy in the sport. Like many wrestlers of his generation, Smokes turned to independent circuits after completing his formal training at the NEP Pro Wrestling Academy (NEPWA) in the Northeastern United States.

Before signing with WWE, Smokes built a foundation on the independent stage, appearing in various regional promotions that serve as a proving ground for future stars. His IMDb profile lists credits for Wrestling Open in 2022 and appearances in Memphis Wrestling events dating back to 2019. These early matches allowed him to refine his durability and high-flying techniques, which would later become hallmarks of his WWE persona. He transitioned from these local shows into the broader developmental ecosystem, eventually catching the eye of WWE scouts during the era when the company was heavily integrating talent from its Evolve acquisition.

The period leading up to his major contract involved consistent performance in front of live crowds and online audiences. Social media bios from this time frequently cited his graduation from NEPWA, establishing his credentials among peers and fans alike. This grassroots accumulation of experience provided the necessary groundwork for his eventual entry into the national spotlight, setting the stage for his rapid ascent within the NXT system. [edit]

Ricky Smokes' breakthrough arrived in January 2026 when it was announced that the stable The Vanity Project had officially signed with WWE NXT. This group became the primary vehicle for his character development and storyline integration. Shortly after joining the roster, Smokes formed the tag team Swipe Right with partner Brad Baylor, creating a unit that quickly rose through the ranks of the NXT tag team division.

The duo's championship trajectory accelerated rapidly throughout 2026. They successfully defended their titles against teams like Los Americanos at the Stand & Deliver event in April 2026. Their momentum culminated at the Heatwave Pay-Per-View on August 30, 2026, where they defeated Myles Borne and Tavion Heights to reclaim the NXT Tag Team Championship. This victory marked their second reign as a team and solidified their status as top-tier contenders.

Beyond the ring, Smokes played a pivotal role in the faction's success by helping Jackson Drake win the NXT North American Championship at Heatwave 2026. Following a subsequent double title loss later that year, Smokes executed a heel turn, shifting his character from a heroic figure to a villainous antagonist. This narrative pivot highlighted his versatility as a performer and kept him central to the most high-profile storylines on the show. [edit]

Smokes projects a modern, athletic image characterized by agility and technical proficiency. On camera, he has developed a distinct persona that balances charisma with intensity, particularly after his transition to a villainous character in late 2026.
