Phạm Duy

Phạm Duy's primary distinction was his status as one of the three most influential composers in modern Vietnamese history, alongside Văn Cao and Trịnh Công Sơn. He was known as the "musician of 1,000 songs." The Smithsonian Institution's release of his album Folk Songs of Viet Nam in 1968 represents an institutional honor. His legacy includes the gradual official recognition in Vietnam after his 2005 return, when the government began allowing some of his works to be performed again.
