Alfred Nzo's greatest achievement was his role in the 1957 Alexandra bus boycott, a sustained act of civil disobedience that forced a fare reversal and became a model for later township protests. He was a key organiser of the Defiance Campaign and helped shape the Freedom Charter. His willingness to endure imprisonment, house arrest, and job loss for the cause made him a respected figure in the ANC's grassroots network. The Alfred Nzo District Municipality in the Eastern Cape was named in his honour after his death, a lasting tribute to his contribution to the liberation struggle.
