Nagato was born in Amegakure during the Third Shinobi World War, a time when his homeland became a battleground for larger nations. His parents died early in the conflict, leaving him an orphan alongside Yahiko and Konan. The three children formed a gang to survive the ruins of their village, eventually meeting Jiraiya, a legendary Sannin who taught them about peace and bonds. Danzo Shimura orchestrated a series of events to manipulate Nagato into gaining power for Konoha's benefit. Danzo arranged for Yahiko to be killed by Konoha ANBU, framing Nagato as the murderer. To maintain the illusion of control over the situation, Nagato used the Rinnegan he possessed to resurrect Yahiko's corpse as a puppet before killing it again.
