    Overview

    Origin Story

Naruto Uzumaki was born on October 10 to Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage, and Kushina Uzumaki. On the day of his birth, the Nine-Tailed Fox (Kurama) attacked Konohagakure. To save the village, Minato sealed Kurama inside the newborn Naruto, sacrificing his own life and Kushina's in the process. Orphaned and unaware of his parents' identities, Naruto grew up alone, shunned by villagers who saw him as the fox itself. He lived in an apartment, surviving on instant ramen and milk, and developed a loud, attention-seeking personality to mask his loneliness.

    Personality

Naruto is boisterous, optimistic, and stubborn to a fault. He refuses to give up on his goals or his friends, a trait he calls his ninja way. Despite his painful childhood, he harbors no lasting resentment toward the village; instead, he seeks acknowledgment by becoming Hokage. He is compassionate and empathetic, often understanding the pain of others because of his own suffering. His impulsiveness and prankster nature mask a deep emotional intelligence, especially when it comes to redeeming antagonists like Gaara, Nagato, and Sasuke.

    Story Arc

In Part I, Naruto starts as a mischievous academy failure who bonds with Team 7 and learns the importance of comrades. He defeats Neji Hyuga in the Chunin Exams, proving that hard work can overcome destiny, and later trains with Jiraiya to master the Rasengan. The climax is his failed attempt to retrieve Sasuke at the Valley of the End, where he first taps into Kurama's chakra.

In Shippuden, Naruto returns more mature and skilled. He saves Gaara, defeats Kakuzu with the Rasenshuriken, and after Jiraiya's death, masters Sage Mode. His victory over Pain makes him a village hero. During the Fourth Great Ninja War, he befriends Kurama, gains Six Paths Sage Mode, and alongside Sasuke, seals Kaguya. In the epilogue, he becomes the Seventh Hokage, marries Hinata, and has two children, Boruto and Himawari.

    Reception & Legacy

Naruto Uzumaki is one of the most iconic anime characters globally. He consistently ranks high in Shonen Jump popularity polls, often first or second. Critics praise his character development from an outcast to a compassionate leader, avoiding typical shonen stereotypes. His catchphrase 'Believe it!' (Dattebayo) is widely recognized. In 2015, he won Best Male Character at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards. The character has inspired academic studies on trauma, heroism, and redemption, and his influence extends to Western pop culture, with references in shows like The Big Bang Theory.

    Interesting Facts and Legends

Naruto's birthday, October 10, is also the day of the Nine-Tails' attack on Konoha.

His name comes from narutomaki, a fish cake with a pink spiral pattern, referencing the swirls on his clothing.

Kishimoto based Naruto's personality on his own as a teenager, wanting a simple, stupid hero.

Naruto never knew his parents until Part II, when he meets chakra remnants of Minato and Kushina.

His favorite food is ramen, specifically pork-bone broth, and his least favorite is bitter gourd.

In early concept art, Kishimoto considered making Naruto a chef or a fox-boy before settling on a ninja.
