Peter Parker is your average, awkward high school student in Queens, New York. He lives with his loving Aunt May and Uncle Ben and nurses a massive, silent crush on his beautiful neighbor, Mary Jane Watson. His only real confidant is Harry Osborn, the son of the wealthy and brilliant industrialist Norman Osborn, who heads up the high-tech research firm Oscorp. Peter often visits Oscorp, impressing Norman with his own sharp scientific mind, and Harry views Peter as a sort of younger brother.

Everything changes during a school trip to a genetics lab at Columbia University. A spider, subjected to genetic experiments, escapes its enclosure and bites Peter. He initially falls ill but soon discovers he's developed amazing new abilities: incredible strength, superhuman agility, the power to stick to any surface, and a unique precognitive sense that warns him of impending danger. He starts testing these powers, seeing them as a way to finally gain some confidence and maybe even catch Mary Jane's eye.

At Oscorp, Norman Osborn is facing immense pressure from the military to deliver a new, advanced weapon. Desperate, he tests an experimental performance enhancer on himself. The serum boosts his intellect and strength to superhuman levels but also shatters his sanity, transforming him into the menacing Green Goblin. His destructive path through New York City quickly puts him on a collision course with a new, red-and-blue clad vigilante: Spider-Man.

As Peter embraces his role as Spider-Man, he must master his powers, design a suit, and figure out how to use his web-shooters. He also has to navigate his increasingly complicated personal life, especially with his aunt and uncle, and his growing feelings for Mary Jane. The Green Goblin's escalating violence poses a grave threat not just to the city, but to everyone Peter cares about.
