    About

As of 2025, Momoland is a six-member girl group under Inyeon Entertainment, having reunited after a brief disbandment. The group is best known for their 2018 viral hit Bboom Bboom, which topped Billboard World Digital Song Sales and became one of the most-streamed K-pop girl group songs of its era. Their music blends bright, energetic pop with nu-disco and electro-pop influences, often accompanied by catchy point choreography. Momoland's current lineup consists of Hyebin, Jane, Nayun, JooE, Ahin, and Nancy, with no official leader announced post-reunion. The group maintains a strong international fanbase, particularly in Southeast Asia and Latin America, and continues to release music and perform.

    Formation Story

Momoland was formed through the Mnet survival show Finding Momoland, which aired in 2016. Ten trainees from Duble Kick Company (later MLD Entertainment) competed for a spot in the final lineup. The show's winners were Hyebin, Yeonwoo, Jane, Nayun, JooE, Ahin, and Nancy. The group debuted on November 10, 2016 with the mini album Welcome to Momoland and the single Jjan! Koong! Kwang!, but the debut failed to gain traction.

In 2017, MLD Entertainment added two new members, Daisy and Taeha, bringing the group to nine. This expanded lineup released Freeze! later that year, but it was their 2018 single Bboom Bboom that changed everything. The song became a sleeper hit, climbing charts months after release and earning the group their first music show win on M Countdown in January 2018. The viral success of JooE's fancam also contributed to the song's popularity.

    Musical Style

Momoland's early sound was bright and playful, with songs like Jjan! Koong! Kwang! and Freeze! featuring energetic chants and simple melodies. Their breakout came with Bboom Bboom, a nu-disco and electro-pop track built around a repetitive, infectious hook and a retro-inspired synth riff. This formula continued with Baam and I'm So Hot, which added tropical house and EDM elements. Later releases like Thumbs Up and Starry Night leaned into more mature synth-pop, while maintaining the group's signature high-energy delivery. Their Japanese singles, produced by King Records, stayed close to the same hook-driven style.

    Cultural Impact

Bboom Bboom popularized the point choreography trend in K-pop, with its hip-swaying dance move covered by idols, celebrities, and fans worldwide. The song's success also helped open doors for smaller-agency groups to achieve mainstream recognition without a big company backing. Nancy, as a mixed-race member, became a visible figure in discussions about multiculturalism in K-pop. Momoland was appointed honorary ambassadors for the K-pop World Festival in 2018 by the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The group's colorful retro fashion in Bboom Bboom and Baam influenced 1990s revival trends in South Korea.
