Lucescu's trophy haul of 38 makes him one of the three most decorated managers in football history, behind only Sir Alex Ferguson. He was the first Romanian coach to lead his national team to a European Championship, in 1984. In 2015, he joined an elite group of five coaches to have managed 100 UEFA Champions League matches. His 12-year reign at Shakhtar Donetsk turned the club into a European powerhouse, and he won league titles in four different countries: Romania, Ukraine, Turkey, and Russia.

AwardsLucescu won 38 official trophies as a manager, including the 2008–09 UEFA Cup and 2009 UEFA Super Cup with Shakhtar Donetsk. He claimed eight Ukrainian Premier League titles, six Ukrainian Cups, and seven Ukrainian Super Cups with Shakhtar, plus league titles in Turkey (Beşiktaş), Russia (Zenit St. Petersburg), and Romania (Dinamo București, Rapid București). He was named Romania Coach of the Year five times and Ukraine Coach of the Year eight times.
