Linda Lovelace never collected trophies, and she would probably have found the idea strange. What she built instead was a different kind of record: she starred in the most profitable film of its era relative to its budget, with Deep Throat pulling in an estimated $600 million worldwide, and then she walked away from the industry and spent the rest of her life telling the truth about how she got there. Her 1980 memoir Ordeal remains one of the earliest and most detailed first-person accounts of coercion in adult film. She testified before Congress, spoke for women's groups, and gave abuse survivors language for what had happened to them. The honors she received were not medals but the steady stream of documentaries, academic citations, and survivor advocacy that still references her name.
