Jonathon Cooper

Jonathon Cooper is an American professional football outside linebacker currently playing for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League. Born on January 8, 1998, he stands 6 feet 4 inches tall and has established himself as a key rotational player known for his pass-rushing ability and durability.

His career trajectory moved quickly from a walk-on at Ohio State to a second-round draft pick in 2021. As of 2026, Cooper remains an active member of the Broncos roster following a suspension period that began in late 2024 due to legal issues. He continues to contribute to the team's defensive efforts with steady performance stats. [edit]

Journeyman dreams often start in high school gyms, but Jonathon Cooper’s path began with undeniable talent in Gahanna, Ohio. He attended Olentangy Liberty High School in Lewis Center, where he quickly became a standout defensive player. His performance there was so impressive that he earned All-Ohio honors and drew significant attention from major college programs looking for defensive depth.

Cooper chose to attend The Ohio State University, enrolling in 2017 as a walk-on. This decision required immense grit since he started without a scholarship offer. He worked tirelessly during practice sessions to prove his worth against players who had been recruited with full financial aid. His determination paid off when he earned a scholarship shortly after arriving on campus.

By his sophomore year, Cooper had transitioned into a starting role. Over four seasons with the Buckeyes, he recorded 136 tackles and 19.5 sacks. His senior season in 2020 showcased his potential as a top-tier prospect. He graduated with a degree in communication studies, leaving a legacy as one of the most successful walk-ons to become a starter in recent program history. [edit]

The 2021 NFL Draft marked the beginning of Cooper's professional journey. Selected by the Denver Broncos in the second round as the 47th overall pick, he signed a four-year contract worth $4.8 million. That deal included a substantial $2.1 million signing bonus. His rookie season saw him record 36 tackles and 3.5 sacks, establishing him as a reliable contributor immediately.

Cooper evolved into a primary pass-rusher during the 2022 season. He posted 40 tackles and 5.5 sacks while filling a crucial role in the defense. By 2023, he had secured a spot as a full-time starter, playing all 17 games and starting 16 of them. That year, he added 47 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and even managed to intercept a pass.

In 2024, Cooper was named a team captain before facing a major setback. He started 15 games and recorded 47 tackles and 5.5 sacks through the first 14 games of the season. Following an arrest in November 2024, the NFL placed him on the exempt list. After resolving his legal matters, he was removed from the list in 2025 and returned to active duty. As of 2026, he is fully back with the Broncos, participating in practices and ready to play regular season games. [edit]

His social media presence reflects a focus on the sport rather than celebrity culture. Updates typically feature training sessions and game highlights rather than lifestyle content. Fans and analysts view him as a reliable starter who brings intensity to every game he plays. [edit]
