John Ford holds the record for most Best Director Oscars in history, with four wins. He is also one of the few directors to win Oscars in both narrative and documentary categories. His films have been selected for preservation in the National Film Registry multiple times, including The Searchers, Stagecoach, and The Grapes of Wrath. The American Film Institute ranked him among the greatest directors of all time.
