Rivette's legacy rests on his fearless experimentation. Celine and Julie Go Boating ranked #71 on the 2012 Sight & Sound poll and #95 in 2022. Cahiers du Cinéma placed it #4 on its all-time list. La Belle Noiseuse won the Cannes Grand Prix and topped the Village Voice critics' poll in 1991. His 13-hour Out 1 remains a holy grail for cinephiles. Rivette was made Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
