Isoroku Yamamoto stands as one of the most significant naval strategists of the 20th century. His ability to envision the dominance of air power over battleships was ahead of his time and fundamentally changed naval warfare doctrine worldwide. As the architect of the Pearl Harbor attack, he achieved the most daring naval operation in history, temporarily neutralizing the U.S. Pacific Fleet.
