Isaac Albéniz

Albéniz's standing rests on the music rather than on trophies. Iberia is treated by pianists as the summit of Spanish keyboard writing, and Asturias has become one of the most recognized classical pieces in the world through guitar transcriptions. A national composition prize carries his name, and his papers are preserved at the Library of Catalonia. For a composer who died at 48, the reach is remarkable.
