Harry S. Truman's legacy is defined by his decisive leadership during a pivotal moment in history. He is consistently ranked among the top U.S. presidents by historians, often placing in the top 15. His authorization of the atomic bombs, establishment of the Truman Doctrine, and desegregation of the military remain defining moments of the 20th century. His 1948 election victory is frequently cited as one of the greatest upsets in political history.

AwardsTruman received numerous state and military distinctions rather than entertainment awards. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for his service in World War I.
