Gustavus Adolphus is the only Swedish monarch to be called "the Great," a title granted by the Riksdag in 1634. His military innovations, including mobile artillery and combined-arms tactics, earned him the label "Father of Modern Warfare." His victory at Breitenfeld in 1631 is considered one of the most decisive battles of the Thirty Years' War. He is remembered as a Protestant hero and a key figure in Sweden's rise as a great power.
