Gerd Müller's trophy case is extraordinary: a Ballon d'Or, a World Cup winner's medal, a European Championship title, three European Cups, and four Bundesliga championships. But his individual records are what truly set him apart. He remains the Bundesliga's all-time top scorer with 365 goals — a mark that has stood for over 45 years. His 40-goal single-season record in 1971–72 was the highest in German top-flight history for 49 years. For West Germany, his 68 goals in 62 caps give him the best goal-per-game ratio of any player with 50 or more international appearances. He held the World Cup all-time scoring record of 14 goals from 1974 until 2006. Müller was named to Pelé's FIFA 100 list in 2004 and was selected as the center-forward in France Football's Ballon d'Or Dream Team in 2020, cementing his status among the all-time greats.
