George Best's 1968 Ballon d'Or win made him the only Northern Irish player ever to receive that honour. He was a key figure in Manchester United's historic European Cup triumph, the first by an English club. His skill and celebrity status made him one of the most recognizable footballers of his era, frequently cited among the greatest players of all time. His fastest hat-trick in Northern Ireland history, scored in 12 minutes against Cyprus in 1971, remains a national record.
