Gene Wilder's career, though not laden with competitive awards, earned him enduring admiration and two historic Oscar nominations. His performance in The Producers as the neurotic accountant Leopold Bloom brought him his first Academy Award nod in 1968. Six years later, his co-written screenplay for Young Frankenstein earned a second nomination, a rare feat for a comedic film. Wilder's only major competitive win came in 2003, when he received a Primetime Emmy Award for his guest role on Will & Grace. He was also honored with the Clarence Derwent Award for his Broadway debut. In 2005, the University of Iowa awarded him an honorary doctorate.
