Records
Over a career spanning seven decades, Freeman Dyson earned some of the highest honors in science. He won the Wolf Prize in Physics in 1981, sharing it with Gerard 't Hooft and Victor Weisskopf for their collective contributions to quantum field theory. The Enrico Fermi Award in 1993 recognized his work on nuclear pulse propulsion and energy policy. The Templeton Prize in 2000 honored his exploration of the relationship between science and religion, a theme that ran through much of his later writing. Dyson was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1952 and received over 20 honorary doctorates. In 1999, TIME named him one of the 100 Most Influential People of the Century in the Scientists and Thinkers category.
