Ehud Olmert

Ehud Olmert, born September 30, 1945, in Nahalat Jabotinsky, is an Israeli politician and lawyer who served as the prime minister of Israel from 2006 to 2009. The son of a former Herut politician, Olmert entered politics young, winning a Knesset seat for Likud in 1973 at age 28. Over the next two decades, he held various ministerial roles, including Minister of Health from 1990 to 1992, before being elected Mayor of Jerusalem in 1993. He served two consecutive five-year terms, during which he pushed for Jewish housing in East Jerusalem and oversaw the city's expansion. In 2003, he returned to national politics as Minister of Trade and Communications, later serving as acting Finance Minister after Benjamin Netanyahu's resignation in 2005.[edit]
