Ed Gein's notoriety is entirely criminal and cultural. He received no legitimate awards or honours. His influence on horror is undeniable, as his story inspired three of the most iconic horror villains: Norman Bates, Leatherface, and Buffalo Bill. This cultural legacy is his only 'accolade', and it is a dark one.
