Before the blight, Cooper was one of NASA's finest pilots and engineers. After an accident during a test flight, his flying career ended. With NASA shut down and Earth's agriculture collapsing, he turned to farming corn on a Midwestern farm, raising his two children, Tom and Murph, with the help of his father-in-law Donald.
