Chuba Hubbard

Chuba Robert-Shamar Hubbard is a Canadian professional American football running back for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, he carries a significant family legacy as the son of former NFL running back Ricky Hubbard. Standing 6 feet 1 inch tall, he currently plays at a high level for the Panthers after a dominant collegiate career.

Hubbard established himself as one of the most productive backs in college history during his time with the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He achieved the rare distinction of being a unanimous All-American in 2019 while also winning the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year award. His unique eligibility allowed him to win the Jon Cornish Trophy, recognizing the top player in Canadian university football despite playing in the United States system. [edit]

Chuba grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, surrounded by the game of football through his father, Ricky Hubbard, who played in the NFL for several years. This environment provided Chuba with early exposure to professional training and mindset. He attended St. Thomas More Catholic High School in Calgary, where he quickly became a standout athlete. While excelling on the gridiron, he also competed in track and field, showcasing the speed and agility that would define his future playing style.

His high school dominance made him a highly sought-after recruit. Instead of staying closer to home or following a traditional path, he committed to Oklahoma State University. As a freshman in 2018, he immediately contributed, but it was his subsequent seasons that cemented his reputation. By his junior year, he had become the focal point of the Cowboys' offense, rushing for over 2,000 yards in his senior season alone. These stats propelled him into the national conversation as a top draft prospect before the 2021 NFL Draft arrived. [edit]

The Carolina Panthers selected Hubbard in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft as the 117th overall pick. He transitioned smoothly from college to the pros, though his rookie season saw him sharing carries. His true breakout occurred in 2022 when he stepped up to fill a larger role, rushing for 466 yards and two touchdowns in just 15 games. By 2023 and 2024, he had solidified his position as a primary starter known for his versatility in both running and receiving.

In October 2026, Hubbard delivered one of his most memorable performances during a Sunday Night Football matchup against the Detroit Lions. Rushing 20 times for 122 yards and scoring two touchdowns, he helped the Panthers secure a crucial 32-26 victory. This game highlighted his ability to break tackles and sustain drives, earning praise from coaches and analysts alike. His consistent production has made him a key component of the Panthers' offensive identity under head coach Dave Canales. [edit]

On the field, Hubbard projects an image of quiet intensity and relentless effort. He is known for a humble demeanor that contrasts with the flashiness sometimes seen in modern sports culture. His style of play emphasizes vision and power, often described as a 'workhorse' type runner who can handle a heavy workload. Off the field, he cultivates a motivational persona, using social media to share glimpses of his training regimen and emphasize the importance of discipline. [edit]
