Derrick Henry

Derrick Lamar Henry Jr. is an American professional football running back for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League. Known by the moniker King Henry, he stands as one of the most physically imposing and dominant players in the sport's history. His career is defined by a rare consistency across three levels of competition, making him the only athlete to rush for at least 2,000 yards in a single season during his high school tenure, college career, and professional years.

As of 2026, Henry ranks tenth all-time in career rushing yards and holds the active postseason rushing record. He currently plays alongside quarterback Lamar Jackson, forming a potent offensive duo that has revitalized the Ravens' franchise. His unique combination of size and speed continues to redefine what is possible for a modern running back. [edit]

Derrick Lamar Henry Jr. entered the world on January 4, 1994, in Yulee, Florida, a small town in Nassau County. Growing up in this coastal community, he initially found his athletic footing playing basketball before fully committing to football. His high school journey at Yulee High School became the stuff of local legend. He didn't just play well; he rewrote the record books, shattering Ken Hall's nearly 60-year-old national high school rushing record with over 5,000 career rushing yards.

This unprecedented feat drew attention from colleges nationwide, yet Henry chose to stay in the South, accepting a scholarship to the University of Alabama under head coach Nick Saban. His early years were marked by a relentless work ethic and a desire to prove that his massive frame did not preclude elite speed. The narrative of a giant who could outrun defenders would become the defining theme of his entire career long before he ever stepped onto an NFL field. [edit]

The Tennessee Titans selected Henry in the second round (32nd overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent his first two seasons serving as a backup to DeMarco Murray, seeing limited action while learning the complexities of the pro game. His breakout arrived late in the 2018 season, where he exploded onto the scene with significant production. By 2019, Henry had become a household name, leading the league in rushing yards and tying for the lead in touchdowns.

His legacy solidified in 2020 when he became just the eighth player in NFL history and the first Titan since Chris Johnson to surpass 2,000 rushing yards in a single season. That performance earned him the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award. After injury setbacks in 2021, he returned to form, securing multiple Pro Bowl selections. Following eight seasons as the franchise's all-time leading rusher with the Titans, Henry signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2024. His transition was immediate and historic; he set multiple franchise records in his inaugural season and continued to dominate into 2026. [edit]

His style is characterized by a powerful, punishing running approach that relies on his 6-foot-3, 247-pound frame to overwhelm defenders. Media outlets frequently describe him as a "tank" due to his ability to absorb contact and power through tackles.

Off the field, Henry cultivates a persona of humility and gratitude. He is known for his distinctive social media posts featuring large meals, which humanize his larger-than-life physical presence. His voice on social media is motivational, often focusing on hard work and leaving a lasting legacy rather than seeking constant fame. [edit]
