Tywin Lannister

Tywin Lannister was born in 242 AC as the first son of Lord Tytos Lannister, a weak and ineffectual ruler who earned the derisive nickname "the toothless lion." Watching his father be mocked and exploited by their bannermen instilled in Tywin a deep hatred of laughter and a relentless drive to restore House Lannister's honor. At age 19, when Houses Reyne and Tarbeck rebelled, Tywin personally led the Lannister army to exterminate both houses entirely. The song "The Rains of Castamere" was written to commemorate this brutal act, and it became a chilling warning to any who would defy him.

Tywin served as Hand of the King to Aerys II Targaryen for twenty years, proving an exceptionally capable administrator who brought peace and prosperity to the realm. However, Aerys grew jealous of Tywin's competence and popularity, eventually humiliating him by refusing a marriage between Cersei and Prince Rhaegar. Tywin resigned and returned to Casterly Rock.
