Retsu Kaioh was born and raised in the brutal Chinese martial arts underworld, a world where life was cheap and killing was considered sport that could make a fighter famous and rich. He trained tirelessly in the 4,000-year-old tradition of Kenpo, eventually earning the title of Kaioh (Sea King), the highest rank in the Chinese martial arts world. The Great Chinese Challenge arc sees him participating in a tournament where he showcases his signature techniques like the Crushing Fist and Air Arrow. The most pivotal moment comes in the Baki-Dou arc when Retsu challenges the resurrected swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. Believing his Chinese martial arts to be superior, Retsu fights with a variety of weapons but is ultimately killed by Musashi's suspended continuous slashes.
