Ratonhnaké꞉ton

Ratonhnhaké:ton was born in 1756 to Kaniehtí꞉io, a Mohawk clan mother, and Haytham Kenway, a British Templar Grand Master. He grew up in the village of Kanatahséton, learning the ways of his people: hunting, tracking, and a deep respect for nature. When he was four, his father left, and his mother raised him alone. At age ten, colonial soldiers led by Charles Lee burned his village, killing his mother. The trauma set him on a path of vengeance. Guided by visions of the First Civilization being Juno, he traveled to the Homestead, where he met the aging Assassin Achilles Davenport, the last of the Colonial Brotherhood. Achilles trained him, and he adopted the name Connor to navigate colonial society, though he always kept his Mohawk name as his true identity.[edit]

Connor is driven by a strong sense of justice and a desire to protect the innocent. He is serious, focused, and often stoic, shaped by the loss of his mother and the destruction of his village. He values his Mohawk heritage deeply, often feeling caught between two worlds. He can be naive at first, believing in clear-cut good and evil, but grows more pragmatic as he faces the moral complexities of the Revolution and his father's Templar ideology. He is fiercely independent, refusing to be a puppet for either the Assassins or the Patriots. Connor's journey begins in 1769 with his childhood trauma and training under Achilles. His central quest is to kill Charles Lee, the man he blames for his mother's death. Over the course of the American Revolution, he allies with the Patriots, assassinating Templar targets like William Johnson, John Pitcairn, and Thomas Hickey. A major turning point occurs when he discovers that his father Haytham is the Templar Grand Master. The two form a tense alliance against a common enemy, but their philosophical differences lead to a duel in 1781, where Connor kills his father. This act forces him to confront the futility of vengeance. In the epilogue, set in 1783, he reflects on his actions, acknowledging that the Revolution hasn't fully protected his people. In his later years, he continues to protect the Homestead and his tribe, eventually dying in 1806 after visiting the dying Achilles, as shown in the short film Assassin's Creed: Embers.[edit]

A 2020 study by the University of California, Davis, highlighted him as a landmark character in Native American representation, noting his role in challenging stereotypes.
