Caligula's record is not one of prizes but of consequences. He ruled for less than four years and left behind two aqueducts that supplied Rome for centuries, a province in North Africa, and a reputation that has outlasted every building. The Julio-Claudian line survived him by only three decades, but the name survived everything. He is the only Roman emperor whose name is also a common insult, which is a kind of fame no award committee could confer.
