    Overview

Stephenie Meyer's Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final novel in The Twilight Saga, picks up right where Eclipse left off. Bella Swan and Edward Cullen finally tie the knot, leaving a heartbroken Jacob Black behind. The book is split into three parts: the first and third are told from Bella's perspective, while the middle section is narrated by Jacob. This shift in viewpoint offers a fresh take on the unfolding drama. Bella faces life-threatening complications during her pregnancy, forcing her to risk her humanity for a chance at immortality. Meyer first outlined the story in 2003, refining it through the writing of New Moon and Eclipse while keeping the core plot intact.

Published by Little, Brown and Company on August 2, 2008, Breaking Dawn had an initial print run of 3.7 million copies. Over 1.3 million sold in the US and 20,000 in the UK within the first 24 hours, setting a record for the Hachette Book Group USA. By year's end, it moved over 6 million copies, ranking as the third best-selling novel of 2008 behind Twilight and New Moon. The publisher took aggressive steps to prevent leaks, closing fan forums and setting up a dedicated email for reporting spoilers.

Unlike its predecessors, Breaking Dawn drew mixed reviews from critics, largely due to its more direct exploration of adult themes like marriage and childbirth. It remains the most controversial entry in the series. Despite the criticism, the novel won the British Book Award for Children's Book of the Year. Translated into 38 languages with rights sold to over 50 countries, it was later adapted into a two-part film series, released in 2011 and 2012.
