Records
Bobby Moore's greatest accolade is captaining England to their only World Cup title in 1966. He was the first footballer to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, a record that stood for 24 years. Moore earned 108 caps, a national record at the time, and captained England 90 times. He was also the first player to be inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in its inaugural class of 2002. His OBE in 1967 recognized his contribution to football. Beyond trophies, Moore is remembered for redefining defending with intelligence and grace, earning praise from Pelé, who called him the best defender he ever faced.
