    Overview

Jaime Reyes, a recent college graduate, returns to his family in Palmera City with big dreams but quickly discovers that his loved ones are struggling financially. His job search leads him to Kord Industries, where he crosses paths with Jenny Kord, who entrusts him with a mysterious artifact: an ancient Scarab. When the Scarab bonds with Jaime, it grants him a powerful suit of armor, turning him into the Blue Beetle. Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, this action-packed superhero film stars Xolo Maridueña as Jaime, with Bruna Marquezine as Jenny, Susan Sarandon as the villainous Victoria Kord, and Raoul Max Trujillo as Carapax. Produced on a budget of $104 million, the movie earned over $130 million worldwide. It blends high-tech sci-fi with heartfelt family dynamics and Mexican American culture.

Ángel Manuel Soto drew from his own upbringing to shape the Reyes family, making them the emotional core of the film. Shooting took place primarily in Atlanta, Georgia, and Puerto Rico. The Scarab's AI, Khaji-Da, is voiced by Grammy-nominated artist Becky G. The film includes subtle nods to the wider DC universe, such as a Gotham Law hoodie worn by Jaime. Despite moderate critical reviews, the film was praised for its representation and family-centric story.

Jaime Reyes, a recent college graduate with aspirations of a brighter future, returns to his family in Palmera City. However, he quickly discovers that his family is facing significant financial hardship, with his father's auto shop on the brink of foreclosure and their home in jeopardy. Determined to help, Jaime and his sister, Milagro, take on jobs serving the wealthy at a resort, hoping to earn enough to support their family.

It is at the resort that Jaime encounters Jenny Kord, the daughter of the late tech mogul Ted Kord and a key figure at Kord Industries. Jenny, herself at odds with her ruthless aunt Victoria Kord who now controls the company, is attempting to thwart Victoria's dangerous plans. Victoria is obsessed with weaponizing an ancient alien artifact known as the Scarab, which fell into her family's possession. Jenny, in an effort to protect the Scarab from her aunt, steals it.

During a subsequent encounter, Jenny entrusts the Scarab to Jaime for safekeeping. Unbeknownst to him, the Scarab possesses a powerful alien AI and is designed to bond with a host. When Jaime's family pressures him to open the container holding the artifact, and despite warnings, they interact with it. The Scarab ultimately latches onto Jaime, fusing with his body and bestowing upon him an extraordinary suit of armor and incredible, albeit unpredictable, powers. This transformation marks Jaime's reluctant entry into the world of superheroes as the Blue Beetle.

Initially unable to control his newfound abilities, Jaime seeks out Jenny for answers. However, they soon find themselves pursued by Victoria Kord's menacing forces, including her imposing bodyguard, Carapax. As Jaime and Jenny delve deeper into the Scarab's origins and Kord Industries' secrets, they uncover Victoria's sinister objective: to create an army of advanced robotic soldiers, the OMACs, powered by the Scarab's alien technology. The Reyes family, drawn into the escalating conflict, rallies around Jaime, utilizing their ingenuity and Ted Kord's hidden arsenal, including a remarkable beetle-shaped airship, to protect Jaime and confront Victoria's escalating threat. The family's deep bonds and unwavering support become Jaime's greatest strength as he grapples with his destiny and the immense responsibility that comes with being the Blue Beetle.
