It is at the resort that Jaime encounters Jenny Kord, the daughter of the late tech mogul Ted Kord and a key figure at Kord Industries. Jenny, herself at odds with her ruthless aunt Victoria Kord who now controls the company, is attempting to thwart Victoria's dangerous plans. Victoria is obsessed with weaponizing an ancient alien artifact known as the Scarab, which fell into her family's possession. Jenny, in an effort to protect the Scarab from her aunt, steals it.

During a subsequent encounter, Jenny entrusts the Scarab to Jaime for safekeeping. Unbeknownst to him, the Scarab possesses a powerful alien AI and is designed to bond with a host. When Jaime's family pressures him to open the container holding the artifact, and despite warnings, they interact with it. The Scarab ultimately latches onto Jaime, fusing with his body and bestowing upon him an extraordinary suit of armor and incredible, albeit unpredictable, powers. This transformation marks Jaime's reluctant entry into the world of superheroes as the Blue Beetle.

Initially unable to control his newfound abilities, Jaime seeks out Jenny for answers. However, they soon find themselves pursued by Victoria Kord's menacing forces, including her imposing bodyguard, Carapax. As Jaime and Jenny delve deeper into the Scarab's origins and Kord Industries' secrets, they uncover Victoria's sinister objective: to create an army of advanced robotic soldiers, the OMACs, powered by the Scarab's alien technology.
