Benny Gantz, born Benjamin Gantz on June 9, 1959, in the small moshav of Kfar Ahim, is a retired Israeli army general who traded his uniform for a political career. Over the years, he has held some of the most powerful offices in the country, including defense minister, alternate prime minister, and deputy prime minister. But his path to politics started on the battlefield, where he rose to become the 20th Chief of General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, serving from 2011 to 2015. After retiring from the military, Gantz entered politics in December 2018, founding the Israel Resilience party. He quickly allied with Yesh Atid and Telem to form Blue and White, a centrist alliance that challenged then-Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
