André Brink

André Brink's literary achievements are remarkable for their breadth and impact. He was a central figure in the Die Sestigers movement, which transformed Afrikaans literature. His novel Looking on Darkness was the first Afrikaans book banned by the apartheid government, a historic act of censorship.
